Parents make the difference.

Best Practices

Supporting Play

Parents play a critical role in maintaining the Indie Chicas culture. Your behavior and support contribute to the success of the players, the teams, and the club.

Show Up Early

What one does before the field helps one better perform on the field. We encourage you to help your daughter get an appropriate amount of rest and nutrition. Before practices and games, help her be prepared with the right uniforms, gear, and water. Show up early to let your daughter get in some social time with her teammates.

Let Coach Coach

Let your coach do the coaching. Let the referees do the refereeing. We ask you to offer positive support and encouragement to your daughter while she is on the field. Let her make mistakes, learn, and grow.

A Positive Ride Home

Make the car ride home a positive experience. We recommend the following affirmations:

  • “I love watching you play,”

  • “Did you have fun?”

  • “I believe in you,”

  • “I love you.”

If you are frustrated with your daughter’s performance, we ask that you wait 24 hours before you talk to her about it, and try to be positive when you do. We ask parents to remember that it’s her game, and if it stops being fun for her, she may not stay in the game long enough to reach her potential.

Respect Required

The Chicas Way is built on respect. We expect all parents, coaches, and players to do their best to express respect and cooperate with each other.

Respect the Coach

Only the coach gets to coach. The coach represents the club and makes decisions for the team. We ask parents to respect the coach’s decisions and to trust our development program. We also ask parents to refrain from sideline coaching: it confuses the players and diminishes team performance.

Respect the Players

We ask parents to respect their daughter’s autonomy while on the field. We require parents to respect the other players on the team, to respect opposing players, and to refrain from verbal criticism.

Respect the Field

We ask that you follow the spectator rules, and that you help keep the facilities clean. We require that you respect the requests of staff on the field. We require that you are sober and do not consume alcohol or smoke when attending games or practices.

Respect Others

Respect others. We will not tolerate rude, disrespectful, or aggressive behavior against the staff, players, parents, officials, opposing teams and spectators, or our guests on the field.
